My Story

The Rye Food bank is currently feeding around 150 people each week, and the numbers are increasing due to the rise in the cost of living...

Each Wednesday at Rye Baptist Church between 1 and 3pm, people can come and collect their food parcel. But the Rye Food Bank do not only offer food, people can also access services tro help them with benefits (HARC), housing (Zoom with Rother District Council), debts. And there is always the chance to stop for a cuppa, a chat and a smile.

On Saturday 2 April, Trussell Trust supporters all around the UK will walk or run the Race Against Hunger and we will join them to raise essential funds for the Trussell Trust.

A group of us will meet at Rye Harbour car park at 10am on Saturday 2 April and walk around the Nature Reserve in loops of 3.3km (there are longer loops too). You hope to keep walking until 3pm, so feel free to join us at any time.

Please feel free to join us and/or to donate to help us support the wonderful work done by Rye Food Bank and the Trussell Trust, both locally and nationally.

Why is it so important to Race Against Hunger?
Between 1 April 2021 and 30 September 2021, food banks in the Trussell Trust?s UK wide network distributed 5,100 emergency food parcels a day to people in crisis. This is an increase of 11% compared to the same period in 2019. Almost 2,000 of those parcels were provided for children every day, compared to almost 1,700 in 2019.

This isn't right. Everyone should be able to afford the essentials and put food on the table. The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of more than 1,200 food bank centres, providing emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, as well as working to challenge the issues that force people to use food banks. No one should have to have to rely on emergency food and the Trussell Trust knows that together, we can build a future where everyone can afford the essentials.
